  1. Useful post – thanks. I find it tricky to find yoga gear. Tights seem a bit too revealing and much of the rest that’s available for men either look like what you’d normally wear to the gym or something you’d wear to a festival. The line I currently love is from an LA based company called 4rth (as in ‘for earth’)

    1. Hi Tim,
I’m glad that this post has helped you, it is really difficult to find good yoga pants for men since there are so many options that you can choose from… And you should really try them out first because as you said tights aren’t for everyone 😉 I haven’t heard about ‘4rth’ but I will check it out.

  2. Thanks for the breakdown of all the different types of pants here. I’ve attended a power yoga class almost every week for a year now and it is 90% women in yoga pants and the guys always just show up in shorts. I honestly had no idea there even were yoga pants for men! Learn something new each day I suppose :).

Just a curiosity on the ‘over ankle’ pants. Is there any concern with these getting in the way while you’re practicing? It seems like it would be a hassle if they hang down as low as they do in the picture. I ask cause they look like the most comfortable pair to me…

    1. Hi Craig,
I am glad that you found this post helpful, and you are right about most yoga pants being for women but today you can definitely find some great yoga pants for men at a decent price.
About the ‘over the ankle’ pants, I think that maybe you are right and they might get in the way while you’re moving from pose to pose. So I guess the other options like the fishermen pants would be a better option.

  3. Paulina, I love these Thai fisherman pants. I think I would wear them everywhere for everything. I just don’t know if they would fit me very well. I have a 46-inch waist, and it says they are 56 inches and you cinch them up. Sounds like it might fit, and the price is worth the try. I am going to have to buy a pair and see. I have wanted to start yoga for a while, but I don’t have any yoga clothes. I know I could wear shorts or something. Anyway, thanks for having this here. I have a question. Do you know if there is a matching top to the Thai yoga pants for any occasion as well. I am wanting to simplify my wardrobe and become like a monk. Maybe this is too much for one comment. I just hadn’t been successful in finding the right kind of clothing. If you can help, let me know.

    1. Hi Alan,
They say that the fishermen pants are supposed to fit people from XS to XL, so I guess they should fit most people because you can tie it around your waist to fit.
I would suggest reading in the comments if someone has already bought this with the same waist size and you and see if it fit him.
Regarding a matching shirt, I think you wear maybe a V-Neck Tee Shirt or a Thai Hippie Shirt that come in different colors.

  4. When I started practicing yoga for the very first time, I did so in my living room by myself. So I only wore some gym shorts to start with, and they were ok but certainly not great.

I knew about the normal yoga paint for men, but I didn’t know about all these other options. Especially those Fisherman Pants, they look awesome! You mentioned that they can be used for both yoga and martial arts – that’s exactly what I thought when I saw them! They totally look like something a kung-fu master would wear!

I think that if I ever join a group for yoga I’ll have to get some of these pants for myself. I might just have to get some Fisherman Pants anyway since I really like the way they look!

    1. Hey Nick,
You can definitely wear regular gym sports when you practice yoga.
But there is nothing quite like wearing pants that were made especially for the purpose of yoga 🙂
      Thanks for your comment.
